Here is a selection of some best selling pieces my artwork as well as a few new pieces to which I would like to call your attention.
“Art is not what you see but what you make others see.” (Edward Degas)
Mixed media painting of four lovebirds: watercolor, colored pencil, pastel, acrylic paint.
This is a digital drawing / painting of a green tree frog I created on my iPad several years ago as a birthday gift for my daughter. The Puerto Rican green tree frog called Coqui was the symbol she used in the logo for her company. This is the original version of that piece.
Charcoal portrait of a friend of mine named Joe Wacker. Joe is semi-professional model who is often hired for historical re-enactments, especially of the Wild West and the Civil War era.
Pen drawing of the face of an unknown male, drawn in a scratchy pen style. This is one of my personal favorites of the portrait drawings I have done because of the interesting variations I achieved in my pen work and the emotional effect I was able to convey.
This digital drawing of a bearded crescent moon with a night cap on was inspired by the song “Mr. Sandman.” This piece has established itself as one of the longtime favorite pieces of my artwork among children and adults who have viewed my artwork.
Digital Drawing of Jimi Hendrix based on my original pen drawing of him.
One in a series of digital mixed media paintings I created for my Healing Hearts series. The overall bright colors and background for this piece had a cheery psychedelic feel to it. The Healing Hearts Series were amongst the earliest pieces of digital drawings and paintings I did on my iPad.
Sailor Pen Drawing of the profile of St. Francis of Assisi with a halo.
Two versions:
1. with his name “St.Francis of Assisi)” at top
2. with no name.
A playfully executed folk-style digital drawing of an owl with an accompanying inspirational saying:
A wise old owl sat on an oak;
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard;
Why aren't we like that wise old bird? —Charles M Schulz
I created this digital piece on my iPad using my finger as a stylus. It was inspired (interestingly enough) by our cat named Mingo who was sitting on a chair in front of me and looked so peaceful. This was my attempt to try and convey the dreamy state of tranquility I was sensing observing my cat.
As you can see, there are two versions, each piece with its own color scheme.
Pen drawing of an old abandoned truck in a field.
The style of this sketch was inspired by my love of the artwork of underground artist Robert Crumb.
The story of the prophet Elijah encountering God in the cave is found in 1 Kings 19:11-13
The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.”
Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
===============
This drawing of Elijah was executed with a Sailor Fountain Pen and a brush pen.
This is a digital painting of the head of a red-tailed hawk I did in preparation for a commission I was given by my brother Bill. I was supposed to design a logo for a website featuring a red-tailed hawk. Since I knew nothing about this bird, I painted this with my finger on my iPad as a preparation for designing the logo. In the end, the project fell through but I did manage to create one of my greatest wildlife pieces.
This piece also holds a special place in my heart since It serves as a memory for Bill who died a couple of years ago at only 67. The red-tailed hawk was cherished by him as a kind of personal totem, as a spiritual symbol of wisdom, freedom and healing.
Pen and brush pen portrait drawing of a bearded homeless man. This is part of my “Blessed Are the Poor” collection.
Watercolor painting on canvas of a chickadee perched during a snowfall.
Pen and watercolor drawing of The Holy Family (Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus). Stylistically I was inspired in part by observing much of Mexican folk art which can, at times, straddle the fence between naturalism and a kind childlike rendering of their religious subjects.
These are three variations of a digital drawing I did on my iPad of John Lennon.
Digital drawing done as a commission I received for designing advertisement for an ad campaign from a non-profit organization that sold fair trade coffee for the purpose of fundraising.
The title of the piece “I Am Awake” is a humorous play of the name of the Buddha which literally means “One Who Is Awake”. Note that the sitting Buddha is holding a cup of coffee.
