Christmas & Holiday Collection
A collection of artwork celebrating the Christmas / Holiday season and the magical beauty of winter.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
I created this either as a design for a Christmas card or as a stand-alone image. The scene depicts the Magi (aka The Three Wise Men) traveling to bring their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to lay at the feet of Jesus, the newborn messiah. Each gift prophetically symbolized something important about the identity and mission of Jesus:
gold = kingship frankincense = divinity myrrh = spice used at death
After I drew the piece in pen, I transferred the image to my iPad and added the color you see.
Note that there are two versions: one without text and one with the text of a Christmas message.
I got the idea for this drawing from something I saw in a woman’s magazine: cartoonish-style young carolers. I designed it as a possible cover for a Christmas card. After drawing it, I added the colors you see on my iPad.
Here is a little one-off cartoon I drew a few years ago while sitting in a coffee shop. Pen and watercolor.
Watercolor painting on canvas of a chickadee perched during a snowfall.
Pen and watercolor drawing of The Holy Family (Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus). Stylistically I was inspired in part by observing much of Mexican folk art which can, at times, straddle the fence between naturalism and a kind childlike rendering of their religious subjects.
A zany little cartoon I designed to be used either as a wintertime cartoon or as the front of a wintertime / Holiday card.
This is a charcoal drawing of a grizzly bear having fun sliding down a hill in the snow.
