Sun and Moon Collection
I have long been fascinated with poetic meanings associated with the Sun and the Moon, as well as artwork that has historically been associated with these two orbs. I have taken to trying my hand at playing with these two motifs in the selection of pieces shown here.
“The sun watches what I do but the moon knows all my secrets.”
(J.M. Wonderland)
This digital drawing of a bearded crescent moon with a night cap on was inspired by the song “Mr. Sandman.” This piece has established itself as one of the longtime favorite pieces of my artwork among children and adults who have viewed my artwork.
A classic style sun face that was inspired by my memory of the wizard’s appearance in the Wizard of Oz.
This is one of my favorite renderings of a sun face that is part of a larger series of pieces I have done in my sun and moon series.
One of my series of suns and moons, this one being a pen drawing of a sullen, weary-looking face of the sun.
The Winter Sun Face was created as a pen drawing with digital color added. It is part of my Sun and Moon Series.
Another piece from my Sun And Moon Series, this digital painting, which I created on my iPad, commemorates those times when we manage to find joy and keep even as traverse those stretches of dark desert roads in our life.
The title of this piece — Cockeyed Grin” — is borrowed from a song bearing the same name, written by my wife Barb Webber which deals with this same theme.
A pen drawing of the combined face of the sun and moon to signify night and day. Digital color was subsequently added on my iPad to my initial pen drawing.
Pen drawing of a cheery sun face with digital background color added. Part of my Sun Face Series.
Another in my series of sun and moon faces. I drew this sun face initially with a fountain pen and then important the image into my iPad where I painted the background colors through a series of layers which show through in much the same way that light penetrates a stained glass window.
